WHO I AM AS A COUNSELOR
I am a warm-hearted, open-minded, trauma-informed, holistic EMDR therapist. I truly enjoy working with my clients and work diligently to help them live a more congruent life. Click this to read more about who I am as a therapist.
SPECIALITY AREAS
Whether you are just looking for someone to talk to, desiring to manage anxiety and/or depression, wanting to engage better in relationships, better understand yourself and others, or heal from unresolved childhood/attachment trauma, I am here to support you. While I specialize in helping adults heal from unresolved trauma and decrease anxiety/depression struggles, I am also a therapist who just enjoys people and helping them live more congruent lives.
I specialize in working with: depression, anxiety, complex trauma/attachment trauma, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and dissociation. Secondary areas of speciality are: substance use/addictions and neurodivergence/ADHD. I also specialize in career counseling.
THERAPEUTIC OUTCOMES
Here are some of the typical phases and outcomes of the therapy process. We collaboratively identify your desired goals and may work in one or all of these areas.
- Increasing understanding of self, what's happened, and its impact on your life. This results in increased self awareness and increased tools for emotion regulation, decreased depression and anxiety, healthier boundaries, self confidence, and navigating challenging relationships.
- Increasing cohesion between thoughts, feelings, and choices. This often includes a better understanding of the role avoidance/addiction/etc. may play in your life, including its purpose, benefit, and outcomes. And how to become more congruent in your desires and choices related to addiction.
- Healing from the impact of what's happened in your life, enables you to live a more congruent life... A life with increased autonomy and self-agency.
THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
The goals we collaboratively identify, will determine how therapy sessions unfold. If you are just looking for more of a brief therapy situation (see phase 1 in "Therapeutic Outcomes"), where we process current life situations, feelings, and gain emotion regulation tools, then sessions will be approached more using Person-Centered, DBT Mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.
If we decide that you would like to work through unresolved childhood trauma or better understanding how you came to be as you are now (see phases 2 & 3 in "Therapeutic Outcomes"), then we will have a balance between verbal processing/exploration and interventions that target the root issues. When that is the case, I use a blend of Psychodynamic, Ego State, Gestalt, Attachment Theory, and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy.
Every person is at a different phase of readiness for therapy. If it is your first time seeing a therapist, phase 1 is probably the best fit. If you have seen therapists but not experienced the right fit, phase 1 may also be appropriate. If you have seen several therapists and have experienced mild progress, phases 2 & 3 may be appropriate. Phase 3 typically best occurs when current life situations are more stable and more support structures are in place, but some people do not have the luxury of this and so we ensure building other supports to healthily move through phase 3.
